Access Introduction (all versions)


This course assumes little or no prior knowledge of Microsoft Access. 
 
The skills and knowledge covered in this course are sufficient to create relational database systems in Microsoft Access, enter, edit and delete data in database files, produce information in forms and reports, and generate queries on the data.

At the completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • start and exit Access and understand how Access works
  • understand some elementary database theory
  • design relational databases
  • create relational databases
  • set table relationships in a database
  • add records to a relational database
  • import data into an Access table from a variety of sources
  • work with records in a relational database
  • create simple queries using more than one table
  • create select queries for a relational database
  • create forms using the Form Wizard
  • create reports using the Report Wizard
  • access the computer's help system and safely work with a computer.

Access Intermediate (all versions)

This course assumes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Access, especially
building a database file and data tables.

The skills and knowledge covered in this course are sufficient to sort, filter, and
query data, to validate data prior to data entry and to build a small menu system to
manage a database.
 
At the completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • sort and filter data in a table
  • format data in tables
  • use a range of data validation techniques to protect data integrity
  • export records from Access
  • export records to HTML for use on the Web
  • add parameters to queries to capture criteria data
  • add calculated fields to queries
  • create action queries to make tables, and update, append, and delete records
  • understand table and query relationships and how they affect the integrity of your data
  • protect your database files against unauthorised access
  • use the Switchboard Manager to create a menu system.

Access Advanced (all versions)

This course assumes that you can create a database file, store and manage data. 

The skills and knowledge covered in this course are sufficient to automate operations using macros, secure and protect data, and have a general understanding of the programming environment in Microsoft Access.

At the completion of this courseware participants will be able to:

  • split the tables from a database file
  • completely secure a database file and its objects so that unauthorised access is prevented
  • create and maintain multiple copies of a database file
  • create aggregated queries
  • create a data access page
  • create data access pages using the Design View
  • create simple macros
  • use conditions in macros
  • create macros that are used with forms
  • create a macro for an option group to provide instant filtering
  • write a simple procedure in VBA.
